Horizon International School Scholarships

A Programme Designed to Recognise, Nurture and Reward Excellence

To mark our 10 Year Anniversary, Horizon International School is proud to introduce a new scholarship programme recognising, nurturing and rewarding our most able, gifted and talented students across Years 5 to 13. Current and external students are warmly invited to apply.

Our scholarships provide successful applicants with three significant benefits:

  • Public recognition of a student’s exceptional ability or talent
  • Educational experiences that stretch, challenge and support talent
  • Concession on school tuition

Our scholarships are granted to applicants who stand out in any one of the following areas:

Academic Scholarships reward exceptional ability and encourages applications from students whose excellence will raise overall standards.

Sports Scholarships reward students with proven athletic ability or potential to compete at a high level, such as regional, national and international circuits.

Creative & Performing Arts

Creative and Performing Arts Scholarships reward performers and artists with proven excellence in this field. Students should be working at a level that places them in the top percentile of their class.

Innovation & Digital Technology

The Innovation & Digital Technology Scholarship will be developed in 2019 and launched in the 2020/21 academic year in line with the National Agenda.

All students who are granted scholarships are expected to lead by example and serve as a role model to their peer group.

Scholars will be given regular opportunities for prominence and leadership within their given specialism. Academic scholars will be expected to maintain high standards of performance across the curriculum.

Conditions for Scholarship Awards

Awards are granted by a Scholarship Committee which is chaired by the Principal and which further comprises a member of the Leadership Team and an academic Head of Department. The recommendations of the Scholarship Committee will be submitted to Al Najah Education for approval.

Awards will be reviewed every academic year for a scholar’s continued outstanding performance, good disciplinary record and overall positive attitude to school, in addition to the school’s financial performance. Scholarship renewal will be confirmed to students in writing by the end of Term 2 for the following academic year. By and large, scholars would be expected to be in the top 10% nationally in their area of excellence.

Academic scholars

Academic scholarships are awarded on a range of criteria:

  • Full report from the candidate’s present school. It is essential that this contains both local ranking (‘top of the class’) and national ranking (‘top 5%’), school and national test or exam results (GCSE results if applicable)
  • Student interview with the Scholarship Committee
  • Verbal and non-verbal reasoning test from the CAT4 if available
  • Progress tests in English, Maths and Science, if applicable

To be granted a sports scholarship, applicants should have developed significantly above-average sporting ability in one or more sports, and, if coming from a primary school, have captained their team(s). Local or national representational honours are also taken into consideration. Golf is based on handicap.
